The "ROLAND II" system, of Franco-German design, mounted on MAN 8X8 or 6X6 trucks served as an Air Defense System from 1980 until 2005 in Germany and from 1977 until 2008 in France.
More than 27,000 missiles were produced between 1978 and 1990 and different systems were studied to use them, as here with this air-transportable CAROL fire management prototype.
This missile made it possible to target within a radius of 18 km, to pursue a flying machine over 8 km, to hit targets between 20 meters and 5,500 meters of altitude and to fly at a speed of 1,500 kms/h.
In this truck was the command post "ROLAND II", as well as the storage of other "ROLAND" missiles.
It could also be air-transportable for the German rapid reaction forces.
The USA also bought this anti-aircraft system and used it from 1978 to 1988.
Spain, which owned 18 AMX30 ROLANDs, retired them from active service in 2015.
Slovenia had purchased German surplus in October 2001 with 151 ROLAND missiles. They were destroyed in 2016 but Slovenia kept the radar vehicles that were used for the ROLAND II system...
You can see the automatic refueling of the missiles in this video:

The German Army had also mounted it on MARDER 1A3 tanks.
