Release of this season before the end of 2023
The AMX 10 RC is a 6-wheeled armored vehicle whose mission is to reconnoiter, i.e. to recognize and respond to attacks.
The initials RC stand for french "Roues-Canon". The project for this French vehicle began in 1970 and the first AMX 10 RCs left the Roanne factory in 1976. The last ones were delivered in 1994.
France ordered 337 of them, Morocco 108 and Qatar 12, and one of their particularities was that they were amphibious.
Currently, more than 250 are still operational in the French Army.
Indeed, at the end of the 2000s, several of them were modernized to extend their operational career until 2020 -2025 for more than 250 units. The new name for these machines is AMX 10 RC R, the "R" standing for "Renovated".
However, the AMX 10 RC R has lost its amphibious system as a result of this renovation with over-armor and re-engineered engines.
The French Army engaged them in the years 2000 and 2010 in Afghanistan and Mali.
They also served in theaters of operations such as the Gulf War in 1990-1991, the Kosovo War at the end of the 1990s, and in Côte d'Ivoire.
The AMX 10 RC R, with its 105mm gun, has an effective range of 2,000 meters.
This 17-ton vehicle has a range of more than 700 kilometers and its speed on the road is 85 kms/h and in all terrain 40 kms/h.
Here it is during a rehearsal on July 14, 2021 with the color "Brun Terre de France".
During the training phase of the VBMR GRIFFON, in September 2020 for operations in desert areas, the AMX 10 RC R was present in the firing test phase, as can be seen in this photo on the left.
Its replacement is the EBRC JAGUAR, EBRC standing for Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance et de Combat.
France has ordered 150 by 2025 with a final figure of 300 units by 2030. Belgium has also ordered about 60.
This vehicle also has 6 wheel drive and will carry two missiles.
