AHSVS Actros Bison

The AHSVS Actros is a large vehicle: With a weight of 23 tons without load its dimensions are 8.4m long by 2.9 m wide and a height of 4 m.

The Canadian forces have a little more than 80 Mercedes AHSVS armored trucks in different versions:

40 with a palletized loading system

25 Cargo with crane like the model proposed by HERPA above

12 tractors to pull trailers

10 tankers transporting liquids (water or oil)

5 BISON Actros tow trucks

All these trucks were deployed for the most part at the end of 2007 during the Canadian peacekeeping operation in Afghanistan.

The Canadian army opted for these robust trucks with the armored cab to ensure the safety of its military personnel. History has shown that when supply missions fail, armies fail.

As the Canadian fleet of supply vehicles was aging (more than 1,200 unarmed vehicles acquired in the late 80's), the choice was made for this equipment with high protection against IEDs.
