The semi-advanced cab concept will bring back memories for owners and drivers of Iveco Magirus and Renault CGH and CBH. These hooded truck ranges had their heyday in the 60s and 80s, but faced with regulatory constraints on overall length, these architects gradually disappeared.
The reason for this comeback?
The reason for this comeback?
In the first place, there are potential customers for this vehicle in the military market: the Zetros is descended from the Mercedes-Benz S2000, which originated in the military and is widely exported (the Middle East and Africa are fond of bonneted models). Secondly, the semi-advanced cab architecture offers an advantage in terms of weight distribution when the vehicle is loaded. This is a major advantage when working off-road on loose (sand) or greasy (mud) ground.
The hood architecture offers a number of advantages: in addition to safety when working on the engine, when the vehicle is parked on unstabilized ground (no risk of the cab becoming unbalanced), it offers a surprisingly comfortable ride in off-road conditions. The driver's position is at the rear of the front axle, ensuring excellent shock absorption, with the cabin located within the wheelbase. The cab also offers 3 seats.
The Bulgarian army is the first purchaser of the new tactical truck. The German army has 120 units.
Available in 4x4 and 6x6 models.

These are all-wheel-drive versions, with a two-stage transfer case and differential locks on all axles. Most of the mechanical components are shared with the Mercedes Actros and Mercedes Axor worksite ranges. The cab, on the other hand, is unique, combining the interior of an Mercedes Axor with the doors of a Mercedes Unimog.
