Since 2021, the first vehicles have arrived at the German Army logisticians. The SLT 650 has a powerful eight-cylinder engine with a 16-liter displacement and approximately 650 HP. With eight axles and a 32-wheel trailer, it is designed for the heaviest loads. The SCANIA can also easily transport Leopard 2 or PzH 2000 battle tanks with a dead weight of about 70 tons.

SCANIA SLT 650 tractors are powered by a V8 engine (Euro 6) of 478 kW. Together with their 8-axle, 32-wheel DOLL semi-trailers, they are used to transport heavy equipment for the German army. In addition, the transport of containers and retail goods is possible.

The SLT 650 is not designed for battlefield logistics. It is more used for road transport, and because it weighs less than 100 tons, it is easier to get permission to travel on the main German roads.

Its equipment makes it a pleasant vehicle to drive and to use: Air conditioning, seat ventilation and two sleeping possibilities in the driver's cab make very long journeys comfortable. The Scania SLT 650 is smoother to drive and has a small turning circle, making it more manoeuvrable. Several cameras and assistance systems improve the driver's overview and reduce the potential for danger due to blind spots and reduced visibility when loading.

The highest setting, the so-called off-road mode, is not designed for bumpy tracks, but it does allow driving on gravel and other roads, thus expanding the range of use of the new heavy-duty transporter. The SLT 650 is also designed to carry anything that may be broken, too big, too wide or too heavy for a normal truck.

Also to demonstrate its intervention utility, in February 2022, in the context of the Russian attack on Ukraine, the reinforcement forces of the Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Lithuania used eight SLT 650 with seven armored howitzers and another vehicle included in the marching column that traveled more than 1,000 km through Germany and Poland.
