The 9K720 Iskander (NATO code SS26 Stone) is a new-generation Russian short- to medium-range ballistic missile system.
The first test firing of an Iskander took place in October 1995. It can carry two missiles. Several countries, including Algeria, Armenia, Russia, Iran and Syria, have them.
It can fire various missiles, including the 9M723K1, which meets stealth criteria. This particular missile follows a so-called quasi-ballistic trajectory, i.e. it follows a trajectory that is tighter than a ballistic trajectory, enabling it to reach its target more quickly and more discreetly, but at the cost of a reduced range.
It has electromagnetic decoys, and each missile can carry six of them.
